Plygeiniwch!

Mae’r EP Plygeiniwch! yn tarddu o’r traddodiad Plygain ac yn tynnu yn benodol ar y caneuon crefyddol a berfformiwyd yn ystod gwasanaethau Nadolig ar draws Cymru. Fel arfer byddai’r carolau yma yn cael ei ganu’n ddigyfeiliant, ond mae Bonello wedi eu haddasu i’r gitâr acwstig mewn arddull y gitarydd Americanaidd arloesol John Fahey. Y canlyniad yw groesiad cyfareddol o ddiwylliant Cymraeg ag Americanaidd sydd yn hebrwng enaid yr ŵyl fel y dathlwyd ers cenedlaethau.

Plygeiniwch!

The Plygeiniwch! EP is rooted in the Welsh Plygain singing tradition and draws specifically upon the religious songs performed during Christmas services across Wales. For this one-off recording, however, Bonello merges these normally a capella carols with John Fahey-esque guitar instrumentals. The resultant sound is an enchanting folk hybrid of American and Welsh culture that ushers in the festive spirit as celebrated through the generations.

AR GYFER HEDDIW'R BORE

Ar gyfer heddiw'r bore
'n faban bach, faban bach,
Y ganwyd gwreiddyn Iesse
'n faban bach;
Y Cadarn ddaeth o Bosra,
Y Deddfwr gynt ar Seina,
Yr Iawn gaed ar Galfaria
'n faban bach, faban bach,
Yn sugno bron Maria
'n faban bach.

Caed bywiol ddŵfr Eseciel
ar lin Mair, ar lin Mair,
A gwir Feseia Daniel
ar lin Mair;
Caed bachgen doeth Eseia,
'R addewid roed i Adda,
Yr Alffa a'r Omega
ar lin Mair, ar lin Mair;
Mewn côr ym Meth'lem Jiwda,
ar lin Mair.

Diosgodd Crist o'i goron,
o'i wirfodd, o'i wirfodd,
Er mwyn coroni Seion,
o'i wirfodd;
I blygu'i ben dihalog
O dan y goron ddreiniog
I ddioddef dirmyg llidiog,
o'i wirfodd, o'i wirfodd,
Er codi pen yr euog,
o'i wirfodd.

Am hyn, bechadur, brysia,
fel yr wyt, fel yr wyt,
I 'mofyn am dy Noddfa,
fel yr wyt
I ti'r agorwyd ffynnon
A ylch dy glwyfau duon
Fel eira gwyn yn Salmon,
fel yr wyt, fel yr wyt,
Gan hynny, tyrd yn brydlon,
fel yr wyt.

FOR THE SAKE OF THIS VERY MORNING

For the sake of this very morning
As a little baby, a little baby
Was born the root of Jesse
As a little baby;
The Strong one who came from Bosra,
The Lawmaker of old on Sinai,
The Redemption to be had on Calvary
As a little baby, a little Baby,
Suckling the breast of Mary,
As a little Baby.

The life-giving water of Ezekiel is found
On Mary's knee, on Mary's knee,
And the true Messiah of Daniel
On Mary's knee;
Here is the wise boychild of Isaiah,
The promise made to Adam,
The Alpha and Omega
On Mary's knee, on Mary's knee;
In the stall in Beth'lem of Judah,
On Mary's knee.

Christ took off his crown,
Of his free-will, of his free-will,
In order to crown Zion,
Of his free-will;
To bow his undefiled head
Under the thorny crown
To suffer enraged derision,
Of his free-will, of his free-will,
To raise the head of the guilty,
Of his free-will.

Therefore, sinner, hurry,
As thou art, as thou art,
To ask for his Sanctuary,
As thou art;
For thee the well was opened
Which washes thy black wounds
Like the white snow on Salmon,
As thou art, as thou art,
For that, come promptly,
As thou art.

CLOCH ERFYL

Daeth cennad o’r Nef i Fethlehem dref
I draethu’r newyddion hael
Fod Ceidwad a Brawd yn Faban tylawd
Yn gorwedd mewn beudy gwael,
Ac wele Ef, Tywysog Nef,
Eneiniog mawr y Tad,
Ym mreichiau Mair ar wely o wair
Yn isel ei ystad.

Ffynhonnell yr Iawn yn eiddil a gawn
Ar fronnau Mareia lon;
Rhyfeddod o hyd gweld Iachawdwr y byd
Yn faban ar liniau hon!
Cydgenwch gân, angylion glân,
I foli Aer y Nef:
I’n gwared o’n loes trwy farw ar groes
O’i lys disgynnodd Ef.

Gogoniant i’r Tad a roddwyd ei Fab
Yn bridwerth trosom ni.
Ein cadw fe all rhag poenau y Fall
Drwy rinwedd Calfari.
Hosanna sy yn llonni’r llu
Uwch meysydd Bethlehem;
Yn fychan a mawr, holl deulu y llawr,
Moliannwn Ef. Amen.

ENGLISH

A messenger came from Heaven to Bethlehem town
To declare the good news
That a Savoiur and Brother as a poor Baby
Was lying in a lowly stable,
And see Him, Prince of Heaven,
Anointed by the Father,
In Mary’s arms on a bed of straw
Low in his estate.

The source of Righteousness we find feeble
Feeding on the breasts of glad Maria;
A wonder still to see the Saviour of the world
As a baby on her lap!
Sing a song together, pure angels,
To praise the Heir of Heaven:
In order to deliver us from pain by dying on the cross
He descended from His court.

Glory to the Father who gave his Son
As a dowry for us.
He can protect us from the pains of Evil
Through the virtue of Calvary.
Hosanna cheers the host
Above the fields of Bethlehem;
The small and large, the whole family of earth,
Praise Him. Amen.

Rhyfeddod ar foreuddydd fe gaed gwaredydd gwiw,
Ym Methlem ymddangosodd, a Christ yr Arglwydd yw
Mynegwyd i'r bugeiliaid mor rhyfedd oedd y drych
Cael Tad o Dragwyddoldeb mewn preseb lle pôr ych.
Gadawodd sedd ei dad a gwynfyd Nefol Wlad
A dod mor isel, lle pôr anifel, o ryfedd gariad rhad.
Y doethion wiwgu iaith i geisio'r lesu ddaeth,
Caent lewyrch seren gain yn y dwyren i'w harwen ar eu taith.

Mynegwyd i'r bugeiliaid yn awr newyddion da,
Fe gafwyd balm Gilead i'n clwyfau, a'n gwellha.
Disgynnodd o'r uchelder i'r byd ar lafar lef:
"Tangnefedd ar y ddaear! Gogoniant i Dduw Nef!"
Fe ddeuodd yn y cnawd ein Brenin gwiw a'n Brawd,
Heb grud na pharlwr fe ddaeth ein Crewr o'r Wyryf yn dylawd.
Addewid Eden gaeth, i'r byd mewn pryd y daeth
I ddatod hudol waith y Diafol, oedd diben mawr ei daith.

Daeth Iesu i bregethu a gwneuthur gwyrthiau i'r byd,
A hwythau heb ei gredu na rhoddi arno'u bryd.
Y meirw a gyfodai, i'r byddar clyw fe rodd,
A hwythau a'i gwrthododd, nid ydoedd wrth eu bodd.
Cadd dynnu blew ei gern a hirion gwysau i('w) gefn,
Bu'n chwysu dafnau yn Gethsemanau – pwy draetha'i oes i ben? –
Ond Jiwdas, gwas y god, ffalst gusan oedd ei nod,
Gwerth deg ar hugain oedd y fargen am yr Anfeidrol Fod.
Rhyfeddod Ar Foreuddydd

Daeth Iesu i Galfaria, a Seimon gariai'i Groes,
Ei Hunan rodd i'r lladdfa am feiau mawr ein hoes;
A'r Tad oedd yno'n gweiddi, "Y cleddyf! Tyrd ymlân!",
A tharo'r Gŵr sydd inni yn gyfaill diwahân.
Fe d'wyllai'r wiwlon wawr pan ydoedd Iesu Mawr
O dan yr hoelion a gwaed ei galon yn llifo ar y llawr.
I'w newydd fedd fe aeth; rhag iddo godi i('w) daith
'Roedd sawdwyr Cesar â'u sêl yn gryfder, a llengoedd uffern faith.

Ond bore'r trydydd diwrnod – mor hyfryd i'w goffáu –
Y Cadarn ddaeth o'i feddrod, a'r lluoedd ffodd i'w ffau.
Yn awr mae agoriadau (y)nglŷn wrth ei wregys E',
I'r Nefoedd fe ddyrchafodd, mae'n Llywydd ar y lle.
Mae'n dadlau yno â'i wa(e)d, i'r dua' gael glanhad:
A ddêl dan guro ei ddwyfron ato a gweiddi "Maddau'n rhad!"
Mae'r ffordd yn rhydd, heb len, hyd entrych Nefoedd wen,
A'r wledd yn barod, a gwadd i'n ddyfod: down iddi, oll, Amen.

A MARVEL AT DAYBREAK

A marvel at daybreak came the worthy Saviour,
He appeared in Bethlehem and He is Christ the Lord.
The sheperds were told how strange was the sight:
Finding the Eternal Father in an oxen's manger.
He left his father's throne and the bliss of heaven's land
And came so low, where an animal feeds, from amazingly gracious love.
The Wise Men of fair worthy tongue came to seek Jesus,
They received the light of a fair star in the east to guide them on their way.

The angels proclaimed the birth of the Divine One, The Godhead in Manhood wearing man's nature.
He descended from heaven to earth to a vocal proclamation:
"Peace on earth! Glory to the God of Heaven!"
Our worthy King and Brother came here in the flesh,
Without crib or parlour our Creator came humbly from the Virgin.
The firm promise of Eden arrived in the world in time
To destroy the enticing whole work of the Devil, which was th greatbr/>purpose of his journey.
