about

Alaw ysgrifennodd y cyfansoddwr Daneg Carl Nielsen i fynd gyda’r gerdd ’Tit er jeg glad’ gan y bardd Bernhard Severin Ingemann (1789-1862). Ysgrifennodd Ingemann y gerdd ar ôl cwympo mewn cariad gyda’r peintiwr Lucia Maria Mandix (1792-1868), oedd yn peintio yn y fflat dros yr heol iddo yn Copenhagen, er nad oeddynt wedi cwrdd. Yn y pen draw fe ddaethant yn briod. Geiriau Cymraeg newydd wedi’u seilio ar gyfieithiad o'r gerdd gan y gantores arbennig Ida Wenøe, a ddysgodd y gan yma i mi.

Melody by the Danish composer Carl Nielsen, which he composed in response to the poem ’Tit er jeg glad’ (Often I'm Glad) by Bernhard Severin Ingemann (1789-1862). Ingemann wrote the poem after falling in love with the artist Lucia Maria Mandix (1792-1868), whom he could see painting across from his flat in Copenhagen. Fortunately for Ingemann, his love was reciprocated and they were married. Welsh words based on an English translation by Ida Wenøe, the wonderful Danish songwriter from whom I learnt this song.
